Spokane WA

Stanley went to visit Kai and Kendal in Spokane WA. When he got there, Stanley, Kai and Kendal played in the yard. They rode the tricycle,

played T-ball,

and went down the slide.

After all that playing, Stanley was tired. He rested in the sun on a lawn chair.

After a little rest, Stanley asked if he could help out around the house. He ran the vacuum in the family room,

and cleaned the mirror.

At dinner time, Stanley was a very good guest. He remembered to say please and thank you. He enjoyed eating dinner with Kai and Kendal. They had hot dogs, Lima beans and grape tomatoes. Stanley thought this was a very good dinner, but he especially liked the ice cream for dessert.

Stanley decided he would really like to take a bath before bed. He really loved the bubbles and boats!

After his bath, Kendal helped him put on his Pajama's.

When it was time to go to bed, Stanley was ready. Kendal tucked him in.

And they read a Baby Einstein's Animal book.

Stanley slept very well. He popped out of bed in the morning and enjoyed some more playtime with Kai and Kendall before it was time to go home. Stanley said Kai and Kendall were really fun to visit. They said Stanley was a pleasure to visit and play with!

Portland, OR

Stanley went to Portland Oregon for the Pacific Northwest Institute on Special Education Law.

It was a very long car ride, but Stanley took his friend Hanu with him.

Stanley and Hanu stayed at the Hilton Hotel in downtown Portland. Their room was on the 5th floor and they could see a lot from the window.

They also had a very large bed to sleep in.

In the morning, they ordered breakfast from room service. Hanu ate the fruit. Stanley had an omelet. Stanley checked his e-mail, then headed off to the conference.

Stanley took a train called, The Max, from the hotel to the conference.

Here is what it looks like when you are riding on the Max.

The conference was held at the Oregon Convention Center.

Stanley went to lots of classes on thing like Pattern of Strengths and Weaknesses as a referral tool; Confidentiality, Test Protocols and Student Records; Parents' Rights; 9th Circuit Case Law Update; and Ethics.

Stanley learned a lot, and drank a lot of tea.

Stanley met a lot of people - School administrators, Special Education Teachers, Attorneys, Parents, and advocates. He even made some new friends.

Stanley had lunch at the conference and listened to a presentation on an inclusion program called SHINE. Stanley thought this program was a great idea for more social integration at school for students with disabilities.

Stanley bought some new reference books for his library.

It was a fun trip, but Stanley was glad to go home.

Lynnwood, WA

Stanley went to visit J and N in Lynnwood WA. Lynnwood is North of Seattle.

When Stanley arrived he took a tour of J and N's house. They played bouncy ball, golf ball and had a scavenger hunt in J and N's yard. Stanley unpacked and played on the computer with J and N.

For dinner they got food from Wendy's. Stanley thought that was really a treat! Stanley was a very good guest. He remembered to say "please" and "thank you," and he enjoyed his dinner with J and N very much.

Stanley went with J and N to the dentist

Stanley learned that it is very important to take good care of your teeth by brushing and flossing everyday and eating healthy foods.

Stanley, J and N also took a drive to Puyallup WA. Stanley remembered to buckle his seat belt when he was riding in the car.

Puyallup is South of Seattle and is the home of the Puyallup State Fair.

There were lots of things to see and do at the fair.

Stanley saw a pumpkin that was big enough to live in!

After such a busy day, Stanley was really tired at bed time. But he remembered to brush his teeth, just like the dentist told him.

Then he put on his pajamas and crawled into bed.

Stanley had really happy dreams about his day with J and N. In the morning he was a little grouchy and had a hard time getting up. He said he didn't want to take a shower. Eventually he got himself up and dressed an packed for the trip home.

Stanley had a really good time with J and N and their family. He said he'd like to see them again. J and N said Stanley was super fun and they'd be happy to have him as a house guest again!

Welcome and Introductions

Hello,

I am Frog's Mom from 4 Green and Speckled Frogs This year my daughter's school is doing a Flat Stanley project with their geography studies. Flat Stanley is a character from the book Flat Stanley who gets squished flat under a bulletin board and is able to have all sorts of adventures because of his new width. The school has asked the kids to draw and mail Flat Stanleys to friends and family around the world - hoping to get to know a little more about the places he has traveled to when he is mailed back to them.

As I home school my son, I thought this might be a fun project for both kids and might be fun for other home school kids to get in on too. We have made several Flat Stanleys and some Flat Silvias (so we could make dresses too!). We are searching for families who would like to host a visit from one of these paper doll characters.

Stanley said he was sure he could fit in a mail box this size.

We will send the doll to the address you provide. We ask that you keep the doll for a day or two. If there is a special event or place you'd like to take your guest, feel free to keep them a little longer.

Today Stanley and Diva went to paint ceramics. Stanley chose a triceratops. He said he loves dinosaurs, but he was painting this one for his good friend Frog.

We provide a journal page for you to fill out about Stanley or Silvia's visit with you. The journal page asks for detail about what you and your guest did, ate, where you went, if the guest remembered his/her pleases and thank yous - basic tenants of being a good host and a good guest. We also ask that you provide some information about the location Stanley or Silvia is visiting. You don't have to give the specific town name, but references to the State or part of the State would be helpful. The school is going to map where all the Stanleys have been.

We will be posting a travel log for Stanley and Silvia on this site. You can e-mail me pictures of the visit or have the kids make drawings - you could write a letter from Stanley or Silvia about their visit - really anything you'd like to do. We will provide a return envelope for Stanley or Silvia to come home in. When they get home, we will put a post together about your visit and e-mail it to you for your review. You can edit or remove information you don't want posted. When it meets your approval, we will post it here on the site so everyone can track the Stanley and Silvias and maybe learn a little bit along the way.

Stanley and Diva went to a restaurant where the waitress spoke Spanish. Stanley really liked the nachos, but he thought the salsa was too hot!

We would love to send Stanley and Silvia abroad. If you are outside of the United States, please don't hesitate to participate!

To sign up send an e-mail to stanley-silvia@live.com with your name (or pseudonym); a physical address where we can send Stanley or Silvia (it doesn't have to by your home address, just one where you will be able to pick them up); and an e-mail address.

We will only post legitimate Stanley and Silvia visits done in the spirit of childhood fun and school education.
