Welcome and Introductions

Hello,

I am Frog's Mom from 4 Green and Speckled Frogs This year my daughter's school is doing a Flat Stanley project with their geography studies. Flat Stanley is a character from the book Flat Stanley who gets squished flat under a bulletin board and is able to have all sorts of adventures because of his new width. The school has asked the kids to draw and mail Flat Stanleys to friends and family around the world - hoping to get to know a little more about the places he has traveled to when he is mailed back to them.

As I home school my son, I thought this might be a fun project for both kids and might be fun for other home school kids to get in on too. We have made several Flat Stanleys and some Flat Silvias (so we could make dresses too!). We are searching for families who would like to host a visit from one of these paper doll characters.

Stanley said he was sure he could fit in a mail box this size.

We will send the doll to the address you provide. We ask that you keep the doll for a day or two. If there is a special event or place you'd like to take your guest, feel free to keep them a little longer.

Today Stanley and Diva went to paint ceramics. Stanley chose a triceratops. He said he loves dinosaurs, but he was painting this one for his good friend Frog.

We provide a journal page for you to fill out about Stanley or Silvia's visit with you. The journal page asks for detail about what you and your guest did, ate, where you went, if the guest remembered his/her pleases and thank yous - basic tenants of being a good host and a good guest. We also ask that you provide some information about the location Stanley or Silvia is visiting. You don't have to give the specific town name, but references to the State or part of the State would be helpful. The school is going to map where all the Stanleys have been.

We will be posting a travel log for Stanley and Silvia on this site. You can e-mail me pictures of the visit or have the kids make drawings - you could write a letter from Stanley or Silvia about their visit - really anything you'd like to do. We will provide a return envelope for Stanley or Silvia to come home in. When they get home, we will put a post together about your visit and e-mail it to you for your review. You can edit or remove information you don't want posted. When it meets your approval, we will post it here on the site so everyone can track the Stanley and Silvias and maybe learn a little bit along the way.

Stanley and Diva went to a restaurant where the waitress spoke Spanish. Stanley really liked the nachos, but he thought the salsa was too hot!

We would love to send Stanley and Silvia abroad. If you are outside of the United States, please don't hesitate to participate!

To sign up send an e-mail to stanley-silvia@live.com with your name (or pseudonym); a physical address where we can send Stanley or Silvia (it doesn't have to by your home address, just one where you will be able to pick them up); and an e-mail address.

We will only post legitimate Stanley and Silvia visits done in the spirit of childhood fun and school education.

Frogs' mom, we did Flat Stanley all last year. Please feel free to click on my "Flat Stanley" section at the bottom of my blog.

Can we trade Stanleys sometime? Leave me a comment on my blog with your email address and I won't publish it. Just go back two or three days to where the comments are moderated.

I live in Missouri, so not much exciting stuff happenin', but still somewhere new to go.

:]
